Immigration

Hi Everyone,

Join the San Mateo County Coalition for Immigrant Rights (SMCCIR) for our Liberation Not Deportation virtual event on January 26 from 6:30-8 pm! This is a community panel and workshop on how we #StopICEtransfers, and to keep San Mateo County immigrant families and communities together. RSVP at bit.ly/iceoutofsmc to be a part of this educational event, join in on SMCCIR’s advocacy efforts, and hear from directly-impacted speakers!

Background: Since 2018, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office transferred over 100 immigrants directly to ICE when they were released from jail instead of letting them go home to their families and communities. A jail-to-ICE transfer occurs when immigrants and refugees are deemed eligible for release from county jail, but are handed to ICE for detention and deportation by the Sheriff’s office. This cruel practice is entirely voluntary, and based on the Sheriff’s discretion.

Please share this event to your friends and networks, and don’t forget to sign up here bit.ly/iceoutofsmc to receive zoom instructions. Spanish interpretation provided.

About 40 people joined the protest on August 22 at ICE SF headquarters.

Forty people came to San Francisco from San Mateo County to participate in Month of Momentum: 30 Days of Action to Close the Camps. Thanks to Pacifica Peace People, Faith in Action Bay Area, and Peninsula Democratic Socialists of America for making this a really strong action.
